American Strike Claims Lives of 4 in Alleged Narcotics Vessel Operation near Venezuelan Shoreline

Per the announcement from US Defense Secretary the Pentagon's top official, a US strike eliminated four people during a mission targeting a boat allegedly carrying illegal drugs in international waters close to Venezuela.

The strike occurred shortly after US officials notified Congress that the country had entered an armed confrontation with narco-trafficking organizations.

It represents no fewer than the fourth such extraordinary and controversial attack by US forces outside American waters over the past month.

Details of the Military Operation

The defense secretary stated that the boat was struck as it was carrying large quantities of illegal drugs bound for America, which he described to public health.

“Our intelligence, without a doubt, confirmed that this vessel was trafficking narcotics, the people onboard were narco-terrorists, and they were operating on a known narco-trafficking transit route,” Hegseth said in a social media post.

The defense secretary also claimed that the boat was “affiliated with” Designated Terrorist Organizations, a classification introduced in a confidential memo sent to lawmakers.

Legal and Governmental Context

The Trump administration has informed the legislative branch regarding its view that drug trafficking organizations as “non-state armed groups” whose activities smuggling drugs represent an armed assault on the US.

The memo included a classified briefing with lawmakers of the Senate armed services committee, conducted earlier this week.

White House representatives attempted to legitimize the strikes under Trump’s constitutional authority, which allow the use of military force in self-defense during confined conflicts.

Earlier Strikes and Global Response

Before the latest strike, US forces had conducted attacks against three vessels in the Caribbean, resulting in 17 fatalities and causing widespread international outrage.

Hegseth emphasized that such operations “are ongoing” as long as “the attacks on the American people are over”.

Governmental Changes and Supervision

The Trump administration has allegedly strengthened a White House security body to operate as an independent entity inside the executive branch, a change from previous administrations where it reported to the national security adviser.

This restructuring has influenced the coordination and implementation of such strikes, with some officials being informed about strikes shortly prior to their execution.

Regardless of official claims, juridical specialists have noted that designating trafficking groups as foreign terrorist organizations does not grant additional authority to employ deadly action without concrete evidence connecting them with another state.

To date, the administration has not provided proof regarding the alleged penetration by cartels into Venezuela's regime.
