The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Thriller Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a girl containing multiple personalities inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four distinct personas, each with unique fears and drives. These entities can take over spontaneously, unleashing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy hospital, though other scenes show the main character exploring a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What are you fearful of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to other people can activate something primal inside us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are unique to every individual."

The central gameplay loop revolves around managing whichever soul emerges at any given moment. However, these identities will change against your will during gameplay. While exploring, each soul's anxieties become amplified and attack the protagonist one after another. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by orderlies who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their necks are. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four entities haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the body belongs to them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player believes a persona is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. But, because each soul can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fraud. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is available to follow on digital storefronts.
